Tivoli Wayfinding

The Tivoli Student Union has a reputation for being challenging to navigate. Especially for first-time students. While the building would be going through a renovation, likely within 8–10 years of executing this wayfinding project, it became apparent that a semi-permanent signage solution needed to be developed.
This started with implementing the Tivoli Info Desk to provide answers or directions to new visitors. The design for this project was then applied to the Campus ID Station when it gained its own location after separating from the campus bookstore. Lastly, a broader wayfinding signage project was developed to bring everything together and to provide building-wide directional signage.
My goal for this project was to solve common navigation issues for new visitors. I used my knowledge as a prior student on campus and a previous employee working in the Tivoli. I also gathered feedback from those operating the Info Desk to better divert any repeated questions they received.

Info Desk
As this hub is inside the main entrance of the building, I wanted to create a friendly, welcoming, easy-to-spot design for new and recurring visitors.
Campus ID Station
When the Campus ID Station was brought out of the campus bookstore, it needed a complete rebrand. To create visual consistency among these services, we decided to utilize the same Info Desk branding for this location.
Main Wayfinding
In addition to directing visitors to more standard locations, I also needed to aid individuals in navigating some of the Tivoli’s most significant trouble areas. For example, four out of five entrances happen to be on the second floor of the building; thus, when entering, one thinks they are on the first floor. To solve this, large-scale numbers were placed on walls in high-traffic areas, and welcome signage at every entrance stated which floor you were on.
