Safe Return to Auraria

In collaboration with Community College of Denver (CCD), Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver), and University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver), the Auraria Higher Education Center (AHEC) developed and established the Safe Return to Auraria initiative in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative aimed to communicate to the Auraria Campus community all the information needed to help keep them safe and healthy should they choose to return to campus.
I was called upon to create a campus-wide suite of wayfinding and informational signage, ensuring all stakeholders were aware of all health, safety, and cleaning procedures. Though it wasn’t required, I insisted all signage be designed internally rather than pulling premade signage from outside sources. By creating a consistent style across all messaging, I believed we could prevent visual clutter, which would ease the absorption of information. Thus, it is 100% clear that all details or updates came from one consistent source.
This quick-paced campaign was implemented at the start of the pandemic in March 2020 and throughout the 2020–2021 fiscal year. Not including everything printed in-house, over 4,000 signs were produced for this project.

Signage
The exterior signage mainly focused on reminders or updates of rules and guidelines so individuals could successfully enter buildings. In contrast, the interior signage focused more on how the campus community should move through or interact safely within the environment.
Digital Messaging
Digital resources became increasingly important as the campus transitioned back and forth between remote and in-person work. During this time, I created an infographic, an email signature graphic, and an animated video, which aided in keeping our campus community safe and healthy by providing updates to prior guidelines.
